Visionradio - home of the World's first radio cartoonist?
Visionradio is amongst the content providers selected to work alongside ntl’s Broadcast division and Microsoft Corp. Cambridge multimedia datacasting trial (see
11th June press release).
Central to this has been the creation of a 10 minute slideshow cartoon authored by Malcolm Stewart - CEO of Visionradio - purposed specifically for delivery over the DAB text multiplex. This lies behind the unchallenged claim Malcolm has to be the world's first radio cartoonist.
Malcolm commented: "The cartoon uses an image slideshow accompanied by audio narration, and has been coded to fit within the parameters of the broadcast network and the reception devices. It demonstrates an aspect of audio and visual interplay which could form the basis of differentiated DAB entertainment."
Whilst pragmatic development of "visionradio" programmes would most likely have less reliance on full visual engagement due to the nature and habitual use of radio, it sets a stake in the ground and has proved highly beneficial in stimulating dialogue on the way forward for DAB programming and enhancing content.
