Visionradio announces Interactive Internet TV Trial

Hampshire based company Visionradio Limited is to launch a trial of interactive internet services accessible via broadband connected televisions. Starting in May 2006, the TV services will explore particular aspects relating to internet on TV as part of a wider set of community internet initiatives.

Operating under the easy2™ umbrella, the “Access Andover” service trials focus on local community engagement, offering entertainment, local information, communication and TV commerce.

Malcolm Stewart, CEO of Visionradio comments: “The aim is to extend the power and convenience of the internet to the TV. If you can use a TV remote, you can use the internet. With around a third of UK households not currently connected, this trial activity is about addressing barriers to adoption covering cost, simplifying access and improving relevance of content. And existing users can benefit too as they can bring internet access back into the living room so the whole family can become engaged in finding some information on Google or ordering the groceries from Tesco.”

Trial Services include:

Entertainment:

Local Information:

Communication:

Marketplace:

The trial will be conducted in and around Andover, and include content from local businesses and public services. Visionradio is working with the support of Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council, and input from OpenHub Limited. The full easy2™ system which will power the content for both the PC and TV services beyond the trial, has been developed in conjunction with Insite Communications Limited.
