| Portable Screen Radio Incorporating colour screen, digital radio tuner and CD player. For screen or audio based interactive services, either a fixed or cellular modem could be incorporated. We cover Visionradio's ideas behind opportunities for screen based digital radio content a little further down on this page. | ![]() |
| Bedside Clock "Mood" Radio As well as clock and digital radio tuner functions, this unit also carries a scrolling text display for Program Associated Data, much as today's Digital Radio devices. On top of this the case of the device is translucent, allowing appropriate programming to illuminate the device in different colours. The tempo of the music can control both the spectrum of light colours used, as well as the speed of change - creating a visual "mood" enhancement to the audio program. | ![]() |
| Home Midi Screen Radio In a similar concept to the portable screen radio above, this device is intended to incorporate all the traditional functionality of a home Midi Hi-Fi system, including Radio, CD, Mini Disc and Cassette. As a home device, it is easier to see a telephone modem included as standard to give interactive options for both audio and on screen services. |

| The Impact of Visual Entertainment A key question is how the addition of vision radio visual elements will complement the more traditional elements of radio's audio medium. It is not intended that visual radio services will compete with television, due both to bandwidth and regulatory constraints. However, it is Visionradio's contention that entertainment, information and advertising messages will all bring additional user benefits through visual enhancements. It is further seen that with the capability of digital radio devices to both store and retrieve information, as well as connect over telecommunication links to provide 2 way interactivity, that the digital radio experience will differ significantly from traditional analogue. |

| "Visionradio" program concepts An emulation of a concept "Visionradio" program as a Windows Media Video file can be downloaded here, where audio is supplemented by a video slideshow. Work is continuing on the protocols within the DAB industry for the actual construction and broadcast methodology for visual elements of Digital Radio. |
