Access Andover easy2™ IITV trial

Starting in June 2006 Visionradio conducted what was believed to be a world first, certainly the first endeavour of its kind in the UK - a community Interactive Internet TV and PC service.

Trialists for the IITV side of the project were recruited from members of the Test Valley Borough Council citizens panel. In particular the IITV service delivery uncovered strong user interest in having more content and local information available via their TVs. As experienced Internet users, they also felt that the straightforward user interface would assist those not familiar with the Internet or computers.

Access Andover covered a range of services, delivered to the TV using internet capable set-top boxes. The trial used the easy2 set-top iPlayer from Netgem, which was connected to the existing home broadband service router via powerline communication units as per the illustration below:

Use of the powerline units provided a stable connection from the broadband point to the TV without the need for unsightly cables or messy installations.
